About this project:
The Humboldt Coastal Trail seeks to plan a multiuse trail spanning the Humboldt County coastline and providing coastal access to adjacent communities. The state vision for a California Coastal Trail is a network of public trails for walkers, cyclists, equestrians, wheelchair riders and others along the 1200-mile California coastline. The Coastal Trail is roughly half complete throughout the state, and sections of Coastal Trail have been designated through Humboldt County including the King Range, Redwood National Park, Patrick's Point State Park, and the Hammond Trail.
The Humboldt Coastal Trail will traverse a multitude of jurisdictions including many state and federal public lands, municipalities, and County roads. We envision a 'braided trail route' for the Coastal Trail that connects communities and land resources and provides parallel access along the coast. Trail design will vary throughout the route and will be appropriate for the land resources and communities through which it traverses. This project will plan connecting routes between existing sections and lay out a strategy for completing gaps in the trail. This planning effort will benefit future trail implementation efforts along the Humboldt coastline.
For more information and the opportunity to voice your interest in trails and coastal access, please attend one of the public workshops in April.
