PATH Workshop, May 2006

As one of the last project tasks, a workshop was convened to bring diverse group representatives together to confirm interests, identify potential strategies to meet needs, and determine potential next steps. The focus was on opportunities to address community needs that support efficient, cooperative transport efforts and establishing a justification for leveraging additional funding to the region for these efforts. A precursor discussion of these issues was facilitated in a small group at the December Forum.

Workshop Summary

PATH Forum, December 8th, 2005

This forum was the first of its kind – a diversity of community and planning interests gathered to consider a new paradigm for transportation planning as it relates to community needs, land use, health and economic development. It was the second of four events to collectively improve integration of transportation planning with social equity, land use, economic development, and public health in Humboldt County, California. At the forum were two transportation planning experts from out of the area: Jeff Hobson of the Transportation & Land Use Coalition and Todd Litman of the Victoria Transport Policy Institute.

As the first part of four events, three roundtable discussions were held to present information and solicit input for the development of a planning framework for improved transportation equity. The project team received a great deal of beneficial feedback on the key transportation issues and challenges in Humboldt County, as well as important suggestions on how to create a better transportation planning process to achieve broad community goals.
