In its 24 year history, Natural Resources Services has successfully developed and implemented over 300 projects. The following is a sampling of representative projects from our program areas.

NRS's team of planners has been designing interpretive signs and related graphic publications for over a decade. We work with federal, state, and regional agencies and organizations on projects ranging from interpretive trail design to map and guide brochures.

From vision to plan to implementation, we holistically address watershed issues from the ridgetops to the estuaries. These projects have been the emphasis of the Watershed Restoration Program since NRS’ inception in 1983.

Helping local agencies and organizations meet and exceed state stormwater regulations and providing staff support to the North Coast Stormwater Coalition. See www.humboldtstormwater.org for more information.

Innovative – often integrated – approaches to watershed, community and transportation planning. Most of these projects are also referenced under other more specific project categories.

Planning for communities that encourage active transportation modes for all people, including those that rely solely on non-automobile modes. Some of these projects are specifically addressed by a collaborative for which we provide staffing: the Humboldt Partnership for Active Living (HumPAL).

Planning, design and construction of wildland and multiple-use trail systems in partnership with a variety of federal, state and local jurisdictions. To support local advocacy groups promoting trails and active transportation, see the ‘Resources’ page.

Convening, facilitating, training and inspiring partners, stakeholders and/or community members are key aspects of most of our projects. We put stock in well-run meetings and workshops, and we strive to find and engage all those who should be involved in a given project.

From basic project maps to complex, award-winning management tools, we use Geographic Information Systems and graphic design software to create useful, beautiful maps that enhance project planning and outcomes.

As a component of a project or an effort unto itself, we strive to educate our partners and the community about important issues and cutting edge information. Including interpretive signing systems, curricula, workshops and more.
